John McIntivre sounds like another person who doesn't know anything about the military mindset.Of course we may have "an axe to grind".Whether you believe this story or not doesn't matter to me.They don't hand out Sergeant Major rank to anyone with $5.95 and two box tops, especially the Special Forces. It takes decades and knowledge to achieve this rank,so maybe, just maybe this guy knows what he's saying. And if you're not over there, how do you know any different?I was in the army, and can relate to the fustration this man is feeling...stupid-ass civilians with no kind of operational knowledge running things in a shoddy manner.Sounds like the typical UN way of running things-moronic,with thier snobbish,anti-American attitudes. Many of us who are currently serving,or have served, have a negative opinion of the UN.Bottom line,I'll buy what this top NCO's saying any day over some liberal shmuck. You can make your own conclussion.

I find this article fascinating. The “All Source Fusion Analytic Workstation” circa 1989 was in many ways the prototype of an information system designed by a group of engineers and architects (including myself) in 2002. This system was designed as an experiment to see if a single system design could be fabricated to meet the needs of intelligence analysts regardless of specific agency or target. Like the 1989 model this system provided a three screen workstation. It was all source with special security provisions that allowed open source data to be seamlessly merged with classified material. It incorporated a very advanced retrieval sub-system that allowed for very sophisticated queries and a very advanced retrieved information management sub-system.
It was of course capable of handling multi-media and as part of its analytic tool sub-system included A GIS sub-system and various collation and pattern recognition sub-systems. Its CPU was an IBM mainframe whose boards provided both great computing power and resiliency. It was a lot of fun to work on and, when shopped around the IC elicited a lot of enthusiasm from line analysts.
Unfortunately it ran into two intractable problems: the IT infra-structures of all the U.S. intelligence agencies were too decrepit to deal with a system capable of this amount of input and output (a GIS display would monopolize the available bandwidth capacity of many IT networks); and CIA, NSA were horrified at the ‘danger’ of bringing unclassified open source data into close proximity (a screen away) from classified data (in spite of fool proof safeguards). Fortunately our bosses were pleased with that the experiment was so successful in terms of building a state of the art information system and were able to sell pieces of it to various members of the IC.

My name is Robert David Steele. I run this web site and my history needs no additional review. I have approved your ignorant comment primarily to give you an opportunity to provide detail rather than childish rage. To be a Sergeant Major in Special Forces is something very few achieve and I suspect you are one of those people that has no idea what it means. His direct report was given to me by a retired SOF Colonel that trained in CIA Ops I and II with me and went on to do great things on the military side of the house. This is not a run of the mill web blog. This is a public intelligence blog with equal emphasis on public and on intelligence. You've blown your first comment. I'll give you one more chance to contribute on substance. STEELE SENDS

Once again, an unidentified person with some kind of ax to grind puts out unsubstantiate comments. As we all know, believe very little of what you read and nothing of what you see on the Internet. The incredible thing is; you very stupid people believe anything you read on the net.

Hey! here is something you can take to the bank.. Yor f**king stupid!!
